Harris Beach Sunset

A B&W version of a beautiful sunset from Harris Beach on the southern Oregon coast. When I saw that an interesting sunset was in the works, I moved quickly around the beach looking for a suitable foreground for the scene, and stopped when I found this small washboard stream leading to the sea.

Dig it....though if you could find a darker exposure to blend the sky back that would be best. Nice find!

Looks like you and I have been stomping around the same area! :toast:

Comp and drama lighting all work well on this one; nice photo to do in BW. I really like the reflections on the smooth sand and the catch lights on the water ripples. I agree with AF, more detail in that bright center would be optimal.

Thanks for the input. John, I recently moved from Cottage Grove to northern Idaho, and the thing I miss most is quick access to the Oregon coast!

This reminds me of an explanation point with the strong foreground line and the bright highlights where the sun is setting. While I realize that the highlights should be bright due to the setting sun I think this might be stronger if there was a little more detail blended in. Otherwise, the dark sea stacks and foreground sand provide a nice counterpoint to the bright highlights. For the composition I think the symmetry works well too. There sure have been a lot of exceptional B&W images posted recently.

Awesome! I only wish the sky was not washed out in the middle. :toast:

Wow Thomas, the foreground stream is amazing , great find. I have to agree that the center sky is overpowering the rest of this wonderful image.

I love the concept. Love the comp and the drama but the big white spot in the sky is a bit distracting....maybe you have a darker exposure to blend them manually so you have also some details in the sky. Otherwise I like it

Great leading line Thomas and nice comp also. I agree about the bright center area but very nice scene as is.
