This is an image of a great egret in breeding plumage. It is from Florida and converted from a slide. Was using a 500 mm canon lens. Comments welcome. Thanks Chet

Sweet, Chet. The slide graininess is coming through a bit, but knowing where it came from, that's reasonable. Good exposure control.

I have to admire people who did well pre-digital!

Chet: You specifically asked for my input so here it is. While I like the general pose of the egret, there are some significant issues. For me it is cropped too tight. I don't know if you have more room from the original slide or not. The image has a pretty strong magenta cast. I took the larger version into Photoshop, and did a color correction (look at the legs for a clear look at the magenta). This is also a great example of why the transition from film to digital has been so predominant. While I shot film for a LONG time and loved, it, the scanning of film was never satisfactory without spending a LOT of money on drum scans. In this image, there is little or no detail in the neck of the egret, and in the head. With a clean digital capture, you'd be able to work with this. With a scan from a slide, it is simply gone and I'm guessing the scanner never got it, even if it was available in the original slide.
