Hi -

I started wildlife photography a few years ago when I received a Nikon 1 for my 8th birthday.

I am now in 6th grade and am really enjoying wildlife photography. I am using a Canon 7D (sometimes my Dad's 5D MIII), and I use different lenses like a Canon 400 f/5.6 for birds or longer telephotos for other wildlife.

I enjoy photographing wildlife in my home state of NJ. We also travel a lot to Wyoming and I really like to photograph in and around the parks as well.

My favorite subjects to photograph are foxes and owls.

I was a Semi-Finalist in this year's Nature's Best Youth contest and have also won some local contests as well. One of my fox kits photos is also being published in an issue of National Geographic Kids next June.

My goal is to become a professional wildlife photographer and educate people about our natural resources and animals.

Hi, Ashleigh, and welcome to NPN. I have to tell you that I'm envious, not only of your young age, but the fact that you are so enthusiastic with your goals. I started (serious) photography in my early twenties, and still now at the ripe age of 66 I am still at it, and continuing to learn. You will be glad to know that you are joining one of the most recognized and respected photo critique websites available, and speaking for all of us here, we look forward to your posts.

Welcome aboard Ashleigh! Looking forward to your fox and owl photos in the future. You certainly started off well with you otter photo. I think you will find this a wonderful group both for the advice and help you will get as well as all of the great photos the members post. This is a very diverse group and they post some great stuff. I think you will find some of them very inspiring and conversely I think you will inspire other young photographers.

Ho …ho…. Goals and achievements at 6th grade…. lemme think back… my goals were to have fun at recess… go skiing with friends in winter…and keep from getting too bored in summer. Oh, that was back in the mid 60’s….growing up in Yosemite Nat’l Park where my Dad was a ranger. I had plenty of outdoors…which you seem to share w/your Dad. Terrific! You’re on a good path with a pocketful of dreams and a few feathers for your cap. Keep close to those who love you. Esp be thankful and have fun. Looking forward to seeing more of your pics.

Hello Ashleigh

welcome aboard! :)

Congrats on your recent photo accomplishments !

For me, the ultimate joy is being in the field or mountains etc. with only yourself and the wild critters !!

Remember to be respectful of them and their habitat:)

Focus on school and getting a degree in biology. If you look at all the young professional outdoor photographers, adventurers, they all have science degrees and combine research with photography and adventure.
