For my first post I would like to thank an NPN member (don't recall his name)who turned me on to this site and changed my trajectory in photography forever. I lurked and learned for a long time before joining and have been commenting for a while. It's about time I throw some images into the mix for comments and critiques. I must say I am humbled by the work and talent of the photographers here and am anxious to get started.
This is an image at the start of small slot that leads to the fire wave in Valley of Fire state park in Nevada. (also where I met npn member mentioned above). I always liked the flow of this canyon and
love it in b/w. Comments and critiques greatly appreciated.

Gary, welcome to NPN! I think this is a strong first post. I enjoy the moody feel and B&W works well with this image. Looking forward to more!

First off - Welcome to NPN Gary. I really like the abstract qualities of your first post. The graphics, which are accentuated with your choice of B&W treatment, are stunning.

This is definitely WILD. Going b&w really emphasizes the swirling lines and textures. I really like how the sky imitates the rocks and the little cluster of rocks in the foreground. Welcome to NPN!

Such a killer spot. Dig the vibe here. Think you might need just a bit more pop to the whites as it's a bit too middle grey but well seen here. On to my list it goes!

Beautiful first post Gary, really enjoying the lines and curves, definitely has an abstract quality, and your composition works beautifully.

Welcome to NPN. This is certainly an eye-catching shot. I love the strong lines and all the drama in the layered rock and clouds. I do agree that you could bring the whites up a bit but it's stunning as is. Nice first post.

Now you are a member after my own heart, Gary. 1 post to 52 comments. That will be pretty hard to keep up, but I have no doubt you will achieve the recommended ratio of 1 post to 5 comments with no problem. And, it's a reciprocity effect around here in that you get back what you put in. Welcome! :wavey:

Great first post, and I like the conversion which accentuates the lines, tones, patterns, and textures. Very well done.

Wonderful composition and beautiful flow to those lines. Agree on the whites but should be an easy fix.
Welcome to NPN and look forward to more of your work.

Gary: Welcome to NPN posting and congrats on a very nice first post. I'm pretty challenged when it comes to B&W when it comes to doing it but I do appreciate the genre and a good conversion. I very much like this as is and also like a couple of crop options from the top; one eliminating the sky completely and another cropping down to the slope on the left.
I remember Valley of Fire from my Air Force days at Nellis AFB in the early 80's. That was really in my pre-photography life and knowing what I know now I would love to get back there. Hope to see some of your work in Flora soon. >=))>

Very nice mix of tones and textures. Expansive feel, and the small rock collection is a nice contrast to the swirling stone. Most of the interest for me is in the center area, withg the rock collection leading to the narows area. Maybe a vertical comp would be interesting to try. :toast:

Wonderful B&W image with some nice contrast. I like the flow of the image leading up to those nice clouds to finish out things out. Well seen and well done.

Welcome Gary, and no need to be anxious - we're a friendly, helpful bunch. I like how the FG grabs my eye and then the lines lead back to the dramatic sky.
