Oilbirds

Canon 1D-X, 300mm x 2.0 Teleconverter, tripod
f8, 1/50, ISO25600

Taken in a fairly dark, privately owned grotto along the Rio Guayllabamba in Ecuador. Natural light; flash is prohibited.

Oilbirds are echolocating, nocturnal frugivores and very strange birds. Their call sounds like a demented woman.

Full frame, slight sharpening. The JPEG compression is pretty steep - 65%. There are some JPEG artifacts.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

No, that was me, Jim! What a pair of odd looking birds! I've never heard of or seen them before. I like this image with the wet rock, and them tucked in there together. Very cool...thank you for sharing! Sharon

Very cool looking birds, Jim. I'll bet it's stunning w/o the JPEG compression. Detail looks excellent. Interesting to see that it really is possible to push the camera to that iso and get good images.

I assume I am reading the ISO correct in 25,600? If so that is an amazing shot giving the lighting conditions. I have never heard of this bird so I had to read about it. What an interesting nocturnal bird. Well done Jim.
