You want a piece of me? Actually, this Great Blue Heron was just walking toward me to head down the bank to one of the canals at Ridgefield NWR this past Saturday, but I liked the look. I also am posting a tighter crop-not sure which works better.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, beanbag on truck window, f5.6, 1/640, iso 640, Av mode with +2/3 stop compensation. Processed in CS6 and cropped to 5.9MP.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

And here's the tighter crop, though it's starting to get pretty major.

Dennis,
This is a look at a GBH you do not normally see and I like it a lot. The original post is better IMO, the tighter crop loses some of the detail and the powerful appearance of the subject plus you do not want to omit that outstanding BG. What did you do to tick him off ?
Great moment you captured and well presented . . . :toast:

Interesting perspective Dennis, you gotta love that stare. Excellent detail and colors in the neck.

Very cool image, Dennis! I like the tighter crop better, because it emphasizes his expression and attitude.

that's absolutely fantastic, Dennis! this is one species where I thought I'd pretty much seen it all (not that I don't enjoy a good GBHE shot), and apparently I had not! what a crazy pose. I really like that you had enough DOF for the bill. I strongly prefer the looser crop, but I might try it just slightly tighter: eliminating most of the brown above the bird and leaving just a hair of it on the sides like you have.

Wonderful head on perspective really makes this shot for me. A very interesting viewpoint that is hard to get. I did not know a GBH would be this brown so I am assuming this is a juvenile. I like the original post. Excellent shot Dennis.

Dennis: I'm not a bird guy but this really caught my attention. Not sure I've seen this POV for a GBH before and it works great. I truly like both shots equally well. Really nice work.>=))>

Totally cool capture Dennis. I wouldn't immediately recognized it as a GBHE. Well done.

Very cool shot. I'm amazed you got so much sharp at 5.6. I very much prefer the first version. I like it! Sharon
