Surprised Visit
by William Bickle
Green Heron ( Butorides virescens )
An unusual encounter to find this small heron on the ocean shoreline. I travelled to the beach and arrived before sunrise prepared to view the rising sun, but was surprised to see and watch this little beauty catch tiny insects and very small fish in the small pools of seawater left by the falling waves. He would drop down behind the lava rocks and then appear up on top a little further down the shoreline. Mostly in the shadows of the rock laden shore, but as the sun appeared on the horizon he popped up for a moment to allow this capture! The morning sun was glowing beautiful but very strong, I reduced saturation . I spent about 2 hours following and enjoying him through his searching. My closeness did not seem to interfere with his movements and hunting for breakfast.

Akos.... Was lying on my stomach at ground level....Difficult to get much better?
A Very interesting shoreline with many outcroppings and sink holes with ocean water spouting up when a large swell arrives.

Sweet Photo!!!
Great to see him on the shoreline , where it is quite unusual to see there. Usually in the swamp or lagoon with the mangroves to perch on.
Using RAW now but this capture was taken a few years ago while I was still shooting jpg . Much prefer the control etc. with RAW. Appreciate your feedback Very much.
Cheers
Bill
