here's another shot from my latest trip to patagonia. i had had an image like this in mind for quite sometime and finally succeeded. cerro torre lit by an (almost) full-moon. please make sure to view the large version

Parque Nacional los Glaciares, Patagonia, Argentina
Canon 5DMKIII, Nikon 14-24 @ 24mm
ISO 800, f/2.8, 10+30 seconds
two exposures blended for shadow detail

a few thoughts about cerro torre and why - despite its iconic qualities - it's not that easy to capture over here on my blog.

best,
joerg

Great job on this. Wonderful mood - the clouds and water work well together. I wonder if you have a slightly faster water exposure that might mimic the detail of the clouds, or vs. versa? Would love to return someday as well. :toast:

I like very much the way the mountains are sandwiched between the moving elements.

Great stuff Joerg! A bit more detail in the water might be welcome, but that's a very minor nit.

Wow!!!! Really, really nice. Great drama and super tones and contrast. My only nit, and very small one at that would be to include more canvas on the right so has to contain the river. Gorgeous :toast:

Killer image….
Light on the mountain and the sky is superb.
The water is a tad slow for me but the B & W makes it work.
Very nice work.

Wow, this is amazing! The strong moonlight on the clouds and cerro torre creates such an impressive glow, and especially against the darker mountains and sky. A unique and fantastic look at this scene. Outstanding work. :toast:

I love the drama of this. By toning down the foreground both in luminance and contrast there's just enough interest and flow to pull me in to the main subject, then blam what a magical view.

This is great...one of the best shots I've seen in a while. It all works perfectly for me. The larger version is really a must see.

You've got a lovely light balance with the subtle light in the foreground leading to the beautifully lit mountains and cloud finally topped off by the stars.

I love this lower perspective here on this scene, Joerg. It seems to really fit this narrowed canyon view very well.

Wow, Joerg, this is stunning! The silky water, the moonlit peaks and clouds, the wonderful B&W conversion, and the stars - I love it all. No nits here. I'm surprised by the DOF you got at f/2.8.

thanks for your comments, guys!

@Jon: my notes say f/2.8 but i'm not sure about that - could have been 4 or 5.6 as well (the novoflex adapter does not show exact numbers anyways).

Wow, the large version is just wonderful Joerg. The light on the mountains is just great and the stream pulls me into it beautifully. One of the best B&W's I've seen in a long time. Super job on this. :toast:

Ordinarly i dont care for super long H2O exposures, but it works here, it was probably necessary anyways for the overall shot. This is super dramatic, a bit surreal but in a good sort of way--i can still relate to it as something i might experience in person. So, two thumbs up! :toast:
