Palm Tree Bark

Place: Papago Park, Phoenix, AZ
Date: January 14, 2014, 8:10 am
Equipment: Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 plus TC20E III (2x), Gitzo 1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered, ISO 200, 1/125th @ f/8
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac, full frame

I rarely step out of Avian, but I liked the patterns in this bark while I was on my way to the birds. It was strange being able to take the ISO down to 200 and tighten down the tripod movements. A little more DOF might have helped keep the corners in focus, but I didn’t want to go slower on the shutter speed.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated.

Richard: Great to have you post here. I'm not sure what I like better, the texture or the light. Well seen and superbly captured. Hope you wander over here more.

Definitely interesting texture that's reminiscent of the sandstone formations on the Colo Plateau. This is very well done. I keep looking for the hidden ruins.

Very nicely seen, Richard ! I pretty much only ever see palms on trips abroad but can't say I've looked properly at their bark - it makes a great pattern.

Richard:

This is a terrific abstract with repeating shapes and interesting play of the light and shadow on the texture! Very interesting image and I spend a lot of time exploring this.

Fine details, lots of 'micro' nooks & crannies to get lost in Rich.
Excellent!
