Morning Air

This was taken a bit after my last post and is similar in subject but still I thought was worthy of posting. This buck had just finished an episode with another (bigger buck) in which they just seemed to posture but no physical contact. Nothing happened (at least to my human eyes) and the other buck moved off. This guy hung around but he to started to move. I had to crop out a large branch on the left which was a nuisance so I also did a bit of other cropping to balance. This has about 80% of the original. I didn't get the exposure just right and there are definitely light and dark areas to the photos. Therefore, I had to pull harder on some of the sliders to make this balance out more naturally. Comments and critiques welcomed.

Much prefer this version Peter! The foreground is closer in tone to the rest and doesn't jump out as much. I like the better detail in the background, which has some excellent colour and interest in those mossy trunks. Great alert pose!

HI Peter,

I think this is another one where there's some real beauty still hidden in the image - see my comments on your "Cool Morning Revisited" shot...

Cheers...

I like his perspective to the camera and how the lighting rims his antlers so perfectly. I would suggest this might be one to go easy on the sliders and allow the drama of lighting to be more evident. His shadowed side feels unnaturally light to me.

I like the warm to cool transition in the fg, and the light is very nice, especially on the antlers. Might try some subtle dodging and burning on the deer to bring a bit more contrast there. Maybe burn down the oof grasses in the bottom left as well. Nicely done.
