P & J for Lunch

D800 200-400mm @ 400mm F8 1/500 ISO 800

I had set up a blind and feeding station at my campsite on Falcon Lake in Texas last month in hopes of attracting Green Jays and others for some closeup opportunities. I got a kick out of this jay as dipped into the jam I had placed on a platform feeder ( hoping to attract orioles ) and then brought it up to a limb where I had spread some peanut butter, where he proceeded to gulp down both P & J.

I liked how the angle of this shot showed all his brilliant colors including the bright yellow underside of the tail.

Nice detail and color in one of the most colorful birds in the valley.

Excellent detail and exposure, Bob. My one time in south Texas, I failed to get a decent shot of these. Maybe a touch less dof here to help minimize the bg? Also, there's something about the light shining through the leaves above the tail that I find distracting-I think I'd do some cloning there. Great pose.

Pretty bird...one which I've never had the pleasure of seeing. BG is a tad busy, but you are so close. Next you'll need to offer him Fluff! Sharon
