Walk in the Pines

by Nick Bristol

Gallery: LandscapePosted January 19, 2014471 views38 comments
I was out this morning for a hike through the pines hoping for some early light to filter through. This was about as good as I got so I made a couple of shots. I did enjoy the look and I always enjoy a hike through the snow and pine trees. Thanks for looking. Larger view included.

Beautiful image Nick. I like how the warm background compliments the cooler tones of the trees in the foreground.

Oh, the way those early rays hint that they will soon warn up this cold scene. Your handling of the exposure and white balance is absolutely perfect IMHO.

this is very nice - particularly with those arm slivers of light ... i wonder what it might have looked like had you been able to get some separation among the FG trees? nonetheless, very nicely seen.

Even though you did not get the light you wanted this makes for an excellent Plan B, Nick. That warm glow on the interior of the pines gives the forest a life of it's own. I love the harmony in this scene.

Classic but with the twist of snow and the deep orange trickling through - a nice twist.

I'm fascinated with the touch of orange coming through mostly low down and how cold it makes the foreground shrubs and tree trunks feel. Very subtle and well seen, Nick!

Nick, you show me an exceptional beauty here. The glow in the background is unique and contrasts the cold wintry tones in the foreground wonderfully to my eye.

Hey Tim, I very much appreciate your comment...Thanks! It was the light that I was looking for but originally was hoping for some beams coming through the pines, but when I saw this starting to glow I knew I wanted to capture it. I'm very happy with it and have already done a couple of larger prints of it. Thanks, Nick
