Found this fellow in some nice early morning light at the Bosque. He's all dressed up for the day with that silly looking top feather, but he forgot to wash his bill for the portrait! I like the frost on his perch.

50D, 700mm, ISO 400, 1/2000, F5.6 LARGER version also posted for you. Thank you all for your comments/critiques...I learn from and appreciate them all! Sharon

very nicely presented -- I really like the way the background complements the bird -

Beautiful bird, appropriate perch and BG. I am wondering if the stuff on it's beak is a fungal disease, rather than food.

Really nice, Sharon. Could be a touch sharper, but a great pose and background. :toast:

Nice pose and perch and background. I agree with Charlie about the sharpness.

Quali and many other species here in the AZ desert end up with "dirty" bills - from digging in the mud or from getting sticky juice off a cactus fruit. I'd call this dirt just as you have.

Richard and Charlie...thank you very much for you comments regarding the sharpening. I've added another round of sharpening to it, and I agree...it looks even better! Phil...not a doubt in my mind that this is just dirt on the bill. Kind of the way my rental car looked when I returned it!

Exceptional capture. My only nit, and it is a small one, would be a bit more room all around.

Beautiful, Sharon. Great perch and the puffed out plumage really makes this. Excellent job.

wow, you really got a variety of exceptional Bosque images!
great pose, detail, and colours here.Seems a bit unbalance to me - mre room on the bottom would help, if you have it.
If not, some off the top even to a square comp might be good.

Beautiful bird, I especially like the subtle color shift in this great complimentary BG.
I think the re-post is a good improvement, in an already outstanding image! :toast:

I like it alot. The colors are sweet and very nice light and BG. The gradation of the BG colors from bottom to top matches the bird perfectly. Very nice.
