'Preflighting'

I chose the title because I worked in printing for years..
"Preflighting" is a term used in the industry to describe the process of confirming that the digital files required for the printing process are all present, valid, correctly formatted, and of the desired type. (Black-crested Titmouse)
F/7.1, 1/5000th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext.
Clear & mostly sunny @ 1:15pm

Great catch of this flighty, timid, and evasive critter!
Nice colours and detail, and very nice BG.
Re the comp, I think he'd be better lower in the frame. This is a pretty square crop as is, so I don't think you'd even have to clone any canvas in - just cut off some from the bottom.

Sandy.

Utterly lovely, Howard. You caught a great moment very well. Killer bg. I debated whether I liked the comp, but with the birds focus, I think it works well as-is.

The preflight check looks pretty good to me. I like the pose and that wonderful background that makes the bird stand out, way to go Howard.

Great take off shot Howard, I like how well that chestnut patch on his side is shown off. Super pose, I could see putting him a bit lower in the frame if you have more space on top. :toast:

Thank you all for commenting.
I composed this way primarily because it's a very small bird, & the canvas comes at a 'premium' of course.
So it's a compromise of sorts.. This 4:5 portrait orientation gave me the most 'preflighting' bang for my buck

Nice shot of this litle bird. I like the pre-launch pose as he is taking off. Good BG and light as well. I was looking through your gallery (very nice) and noticed your picture. I think you look like Woody Harrelson!

Good job on this Howard. It pretty much suits me as is. Also, please try not to look like Woody Harrelson!
