This is a photograph from New Year's Day. I cropped the original (which was taken utilizing the 1.3X cropped mode on the D7100) to about 75%.

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH lying down on beach
f/8
1/1600s
ISO 500
1.3X Crop Mode

Cropped to 75%, adjustments in LR and CS5

A pleasing image, relying on a few simple compositional elements.

Luke I like the general composition and I am a big fan of this type of shot ,but that dark piece of foliage in front of the bird does draw my eye a bit to much I'm afraid, sure others will see it differently. Must be great having these birds down on the beach,
Keith.

Did your owl-spotting wife find this one, too? LOL! This image shows just how important it is to capture those eyes! In this case, the carry the entire image. Sharon

Excellent composition, the eyes are almost hypnotic. Nice work Luke.

Sweet image, Luke. I love the ethereal quality created by the oof foreground dune and the included foliage. Well done.

Nice shot of this snowy owl. I like how the FG and BG OOF zones create an ethereal, ghostly atmospheric effect for the owl. The foilage in front of the bird doesn't bother me. Nice way to start the new year. :toast:
