Male Grey Peacock-Pheasant photographed at Mae Wong National Park, Thailand. This bloke was larger than expected so had to scramble for a shorter lens.

Canon 5DIII, EF 70-200mm f/4 Is + 2X,EX580 flash, handheld. 1/60, f/8, ISO 1600 fec -1 2/3, slight crop for composition. Some digital masonry at lower right to disguise oof rock.

Simon,
This is a great looking bird, great detail.
I think this would work better with a pano crop eliminating the OOF rock at the bottom, I would also try toning down the lighter v areas of the upright "log" to left of birds head.
Nevertheless a marvelous image :toast: :toast:

Nice capture of the bird. My first reaction before reading your techs was that this was over flashed. I see you had - 1 2/3 fec. Still showing significant signs of flash (shadows behind the bird, bright foreground elements, quickly darker background). Flash is marvelous for many uses. Just have to get the balance between ambient and flash to render the scene without evidence of the flash.

Very cool bird. The foreground is still a bit of a distraction, but the techs on the bird are spot-on.

Very interesting looking pheasant with the peacock like feather patterns. I also learned a new term 'digital masonry'.

Excellent, Simon. Lovely detail in the plumage. You might do some masonry work in the LL as well.

Nice one Simon - really like the forest setting rather than an open area. Will be interesting to see how the non-flash shots turn out

This is a very handsome pheasant...you got lots of nice color details. Eye is a big standout. Those long tails are always tough to fit in the frame! Sharon
