Cotopaxi

I was treated to some gorgeous dynamic light at a recent trip to Cotopaxi National Park, Ecuador. At over 19,000 ft in elevation, Cotopaxi is the second highest peak in Ecuador. It is also one of the highest active volcanoes in the world and has rare equatorial glaciers. This was shot at around 16,000 ft elevation, looking up towards the glaciers and peak.

Very nice image Jon. This works very well in b/w. I really like how the summit is just poking out from behind the clouds. The clouds do an excellent job creating depth in the image.

This is ethereal and beautiful, and while it's hard to get a sense of scale, it look vast. Nice textures on the ice and the clouds add a lot. The snow on the lower left side is a tad bright for my taste, pulling my eye.

Really nice image, Jon. Awesome light and a super b/w conversion. No nits from me.

Nice curves to this one, Jon. A solid B&W for me.

Going b&w here sure lets the textures in the foreground stand out and the peak peeking through the clouds adds a lot to the sense of distance.

I'm not sure I'd be able to breath, much less photograph, at that altitude. Dramatic landscape Jon.

Beautiful high altitude scene Jon with very nice tones and detail in the large version. Really like the clouds around the peak. Looks great in B&W.

I especially like the subtlety and impression of light within the midtones. Cotopaxi sure does look formidible, and imposing!
