Cobble Beach in B&W

Nikon D700
Nikon 17-35 @ 35mm
f16 @ 0.8 sec.
ISO 200
tripod
MLU & cable release
Acadia NP, ME

There was not much happening with the sunrise, but there was a little bit of wave action so I decided to go with the B&W.

As always thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

A nice comp and good range of tones. I like the moment captured with the waves as well. Looks to be a wee bit tilted at the horizon. I think the b&w was the way to go with this. Well done.

I like the feel of a stormy sea breaking on the rugged coast. Nicely composed letting the shore line lead the eye to the cliffs. Nice, Ed. Chet

Nice B&W, Ed. The composition, as well as the wave action makes this work to give us the feel of the waves pounding in and pushing uphill onto the rocks.

I've only been able to visit this location once, quite some time back. I found composition to be challenging, but like the way this image has a nice S-wave of light vs. dark moving through it.

I like it. Maybe accentuating the contrast in the clouds would add something, but I do like the rocks in the FG and the trees on the rocky outcrop.

Those big rounded boulders make a fine starting point and the wave action is good as well. I find myself wishing for more contrast in the distant water and sky, they're starting to run together, but maybe that's what you intended.

Great b/w presentation, Ed. I really like the arc of the rocky shore line leading to forested cliffs. The wave action looks perfect. My only suggestion would be to pull some detail out of the sky and increase the contrast to provide some separation on the horizon line. Pretty sweet as is.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I'll work on that horizon and sky for a little more definition.

Nice fore ground and comp Ed and I'm liking the wave action also. Maybe more contrast in the sky to give more tonal balance to the scene. Looks great in B&W. Nice job on this.

Ed: I've never been to Acadia but this image confirms that it is high on my list of places to get to. Good choice to go B&W and a fine conversion IMO. >=))>
