Taken in a friends back yard. There was a group of pines the cardinals and other birds would stage in before taking advantage of nearby feeders.

Canon PS SX50
1/160 @ F-6.5 ISO400
Canon 4.3-215 @ 215mm
monopod
late afternoon in central Illinois

Nice pose and beautiful colors, John! I like the perch. I think I see some noise, especially in the bg. You might want to try some noise reduction on this image.

Nice perky pose from your cardinal girl..my absolute favorite bird to photograph. The image looks a bit soft esp in the larger version. I would try to get some captures keeping the optical zoom active, rather than zooming into the digital range. Nice colors and comp. Sharon

Thank you for your comments. I have found with the SX50, distance shots unless in prime light are noisy. These photos were all taken with the optical zoom setting, I do not use the digital zoom. They were taken between 4 and 5 pm. There was some sunlight on the tree when I first set up, but it faded out quickly. But, it was a lot of fun watching the cardinals. I have never seen so many at one time.

thanks again.

Lovely pose, John. It looks like the SX50 has an awful lot of noise at that iso. Normally I'd suggest brightening it a bit, but I think that would exacerbate the noise issue.
