Further than the Eye

I have redone basically every one of my favorite shots from ONP in 2011. I suppose I'll release them all in one blog post on my site, but in the meantime I would like your feedback as I continue to post them here.

This is a slightly different comp of the image I posted a few years back -- you'll have to scroll a bit to see the repost. This comp has a bit less empty space and has some surf action wayyy out in the distance. I think I prefer the cloud placement and room to breathe in the other rendition.

Your C&C is appreciated!!

This image certainly contains a lot of impact. Nice crafting. Those super-duper wides yield effects we couldn't imagine just a few years back.

Wow, Navin. There is so much to see here and all of it is good. To me, that little pool with the lit rock, and cloud reflection is the star. I hope you have some shots with just it.. It's like a portal to some other dimension . I think I would experiment with a crop from the right to eliminate the space to the right of the stack. It would serve two purposes; first, to direct your eye more into the scene, and second, it actually helps with some of the distortion. I really like it as is, but sharing some thoughts.

I certainly like the wide angle perspective of this image, but I love the pool of water with the cloud reflections. that's where my eye tends to go and stay. I'd suggest a crop more limited to the pool. Nice work either way. :toast:

Beautiful shot Navin. The foreground pool and reflection look just great. Also like the cloud pattern. Very nicely done.

There is a lot to look at and like here.
It has a Dali like surreal quality I am a fan of.
At first look I thought it needed some editing, the more I look the more I like it all.
The pool is killer….

I really like the comp. The distortion is noticeable, but can be effective artistically helping to drive the eye to the horizon. So, artist's choice. The pool is a very effective eye grabber and anchor.

Great image Navin. Although think you could make a nice image from a pool crop I like it the way it is. Beautiful :toast: Chet

A very cool image, Navin! The foreground rock looks like it is floating in the little pool. Great colors and I like this comp!

Forgive me I hate to ask but did you cut and paste the rock into the pool.

Thanks for your comments so far... I definitely liked the pool and consider it the star of this photo but didn't take any solo shots of it since I felt it lacked context on its own. To me, it's better to show it along with the sky to complete the logic for a viewer.

Andrew - no. Only some cloning of the beach to concentrate the eye on the striations in the sand. I dont have/need those PS skills anyway

Fascinating foreground with the rock, reflections and striations. I think that might make for a more powerful image on its own, and would make a spectacular print.

Sweet image Navin. I really like the small pool in the foreground and cloud reflections in the pool. The wide angle distortion is noticeable in the trees on the sea stacks. To me it feels like the trees are trying to fly off the sea stacks. This is definitely one of the challenges of using the 14-24. The image definitely works as is, but if you can fix that distortion, you will have a real winner IMO.

Great sky especially the pool reflection. While I like the way you have put together this composition, I have the slightest of niggles - that the right foreground seems a bit empty. I think bringing out the textures in the sand in that area would address this nicely.

I think this is a very compelling image, Navin. And I love the metaphorical quality it has to it. Actually, one of the first things I thought of, was that it was surreal, and it reminded me of Dali, as well.

Awesome!

This is one of my favorites of your images! Very unique, and quite dynamic. This version has a bit more pop to it which I like.

Great reflection of the clouds in the water. The composition is strong in so many ways and there is a lot in play with this photo. It should be on a wall printed as big as possible

The foreground pool, rock, and reflection really make this image. I agree with Kah Kit's suggestion on bringing out more texture in the sand in lower right. Fantastic image none the less.

This is flat out awesome, Navin! That pool with the cloud relections and the striations in the sand is obviously the star of the image, but there is so much more to savor and enjoy also. The clouds compliment the rest of the scene beautifully along with that surf action in the distance. Excellent work.

This is pretty cool. I love the (almost) one dimensional look of the rh remnant. Neat comp
