Mt Adams reflection

Going through some shots taken last year. I thought I posted this one but it's not in my gallery so maybe not. There wasn't a lot of color in this one to begin with and I think it looks decent in BW. Left just a hint of the original color. Converted in NIK Silver EP and finished in PS5. Yes it is dark but it was dusk and losing light fast so I think it represents the reality fairly well. Thanks for looking.

This has a very graphic feel to it, Bruce. I think the foreground grasses take away some from that feeling. Lovely b/w comp and pp.

Very nice, Bruce. It does have a pleasing graphic feel that I quite like. The b&w conversion looks great to me and I also like the darker mood of this. This would be nice without the foreground grass but I like what they add here too. I don't remember seeing this before so glad you posted it. Nice work!

Most excellent, Bruce! And I like the grass in the fg; it's refreshingly different. Love the mood in this image.

I think this is processed beautifully. The extreme foreground is dark, and I don't feel the reeds contribute much. They do, however, guide the viewer's eyes up to the top half, where all the action is anyway. I would call this "soft" processing, which adds peacefulness and tranquility. Well done.

Just a personal sideline here: I would not worry about how close to "reality" you are here, unless it was your strict intent to simply document the scene for environmental or photojournalistic reasons. First, none of us were there, so how it really looked at the time of exposure is immaterial to the viewer. What is important though, is the quality of impact you embed through your crafting. That's what the viewer sees. You're allowed, and even encouraged, to take some artistic liberties in the presentation. Call it "art."

I echo what others have mentioned already. The processing is superb. Incredible clarity in the mountain and trees. I'm on the fence about the grasses. I think without it, the gradient from dark to light would have led the viewer up to the mountain.

This is outstanding Bruce. The b/w conversion looks great and I really like the comp which includes the foreground grass. I could also see this being very effective as a square crop without the grass.

This is one of the best B&W photos I seen.
Your processing is so good in this, so much tonal variation and clarity.
Excellent...

Well Done! I compare this to a proof-set unc half dollar…the mtn against that sky looks like the proof’d coin whose detailed figure pops against the shiny metallic smooth background. I like it a lot. Nice eye in processing. I am fine with the grasses. The reflection is so very close in brightness to the top half…I might take the reflection down just a hair more. Excellent!

Really beautiful Bruce! This is probably one of my favorites I've seen of yours. There's just something about the crystal clarity of the mountain and reflection; clouds would have ruined this. The grass is the perfect counterpoint. Brilliant to go BW.

i think that the grass adds much - it would have been less interesting without it. i'm liking this, simple effective.

I think your high contrast approach works well here. I like the foreground grass and wish to see the central clump slightly better. As an aside, I don't think the black border on the smaller version helps.

This is simply fantastic, Bruce. You filled up the frame beautifully with the FG grasses, then the reflection and on to the shoreline with the mountain. Great call on the conversion to B&W.
