Stroll in a Storm

This was taken roughly a year ago on the banks of the Chobe river, from a small specialised photographic boat. In about 3 weeks I will be heading back with a group of guests to show them the wonders of this part of Africa.

Since I'm posting the monochrome version, I'll post the colour version in the following frame (just for you, Brad ). I like both and actually cannot pick one over the other - what is your favourite?

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 155mm
f4.0 | 1/500 SS | ISO-500

Morkel, I'm a landscape guy , but my bent is b/w. if I ever get the chance to come to Africa, this is exactly what I would be looking for. Hands down the b/w for me.

Hi Morkel,

Thanks much for saving me the effort of requesting the colour version for comparison!

No doubt in my mind - I prefer the B&W version. This is the kind of B&W shot I like - some "true" blacks and true whites, with a nice tonal range in-between. I particularly like how the detail on the subject pops in the B&W version. Nicely done...I like it!

Cheers...

Hello Morkel

I agree with Mr Hill & prefer the BW as pointed out ! The Elephant in BW has an appeal of Great detail with her wrinkles on her shoulder, Back and trunk. Like the In-Stride legs positions , especially the fore front with appearance of motion .

Cheers

I like them both about the same and can't really decide which I favor. I think it would have helped if the white sand had been green grass giving you four nice solid color layers but not much you could have done about that.

Normally I prefer color for wildlife and landscape photos but in this case I think the B&W makes more of an impact here. Very nicely done Morkel.
