Geoffroy's Spider Monkey
by Max Waugh
Tomorrow I depart for my next Costa Rica tour. It's always fun sharing your favorite places with others, and this trip is special in that it will be the first tropical wildlife experience for all of my clients.
One of the reasons I like to travel to the Pacific side of the country at this time of year is because it's the fruiting season in many areas. This leads to increased feeding activity by many of the canopy dwellers--monkeys and birds especially--and the fruit that falls to the forest floor feeds other species like peccaries and tapirs. And of course, this also leads to more predator sightings. Hopefully I'll have some fun encounters to share when I return.

10 commentsI like this shot. Sharp where it counts and those orange berries add a great touch of colour (and go so well with the colour of the monkey). A subtle thing, but that opening behind and above the subject's head (with the corresponding out-of-focus background it provides) couldn't be positioned better - it makes the head stand out wonderfully. In my opinion this is a very well-constructed shot - both technically and creatively. Good job...and have fun in Costa Rica!
Cheers...
