Above McCarthy

Going back quite a few months here... This was taken in Alaska, just southwest of McCarthy, as we were flying at the feet of the large, towering peaks. Cloud cover hid the tallest of them, but we enjoyed the sight of many other "smaller" peaks, which really were quite large in comparison to the mountains I'm used to. The geology along our route, in addition to the wonderful fall colors, made this one of the most scenic places I've ever seen. Countless waterfalls took the plunge over tall cliffs into dense undergrowth below, making it almost unbelievable to realize it was all real. If you view this large, you can spot one of those streams, running near the bottom right corner. No wonder the mosquitoes come in tremendous swarms...so much water in the area.

Anyways, it wasn't necessarily the smoothest ride, and since I was at 55mm shooting from the inside of the airplane, I had to bump up the ISO more than I would have usually liked. Hope you enjoy this view as much as I did!

Breathtaking scene, Nathan. Your right the large view is a must see. Probably couldn't get the pilot to dip any closer to the first ridge line. Great opportunity to take in the grand view. Nice work. :toast:

Very nice work, Nathan. I like the fall color on the tundra contrasted with the dusting of snow on the peaks signaling the transition of seasons. The scale of this scene is breathtaking. :toast:

What a vista! Those shadowed ridges in the foreground remind me of some of Navin's images.
