Morning Swim

Tried another shot of this odd looking goose. No idea what type it is. It doesn't seem to be a local bird. There's only two of them. This one and another somewhat larger white one. I would have liked the goose to be positioned higher near the middle. Shot at Lake Davis.

Addison, it is likely feral. The base stock is the Chinese Goose sometimes called a Swan Goose. Good focus and DOF. Unfortunately it is swimming away from the light so we get great detail out of the wrong end. All of the basic capture techs look fine. I think you just have to try either for them swimming into the light or use flatter lighting, like an overcast day, when the contrast range is lower and both the lights and the darks come out.

Hi Addison,
Rick pretty much nailed the feedback. If the bird had given you just a little head turn this would have been a much better image but there is only a small amount of light hitting the eye which makes for a dark face and getting a good look at the eye is fairly critical in any good avian image. You did a good job on not blowing out the whites so just a simple head turn toward you would have helped a lot here. You can certainly crop more from the top of the image to get your goose more centered like you want it but then I would crop some off of the left and the right sides to balance it out. Looking forward to your next one Addison.

Nice image quality, Addison. I would like the head to be turned a bit more into the light, though in the larger image the glancing light in the eye is pretty cool.
