Sentinel Rock, Yosemite

This was in Yosemite Valley last Friday. I'm especially wondering about the clouds. I tried popping them with some more highlights, but I backed off, since I thought it seemed to take away from the mood.

I'm trying to go for something slightly ethereal overall, with the darker rock formations and swirling clouds (especially starting in the ULC) while also eventually drawing some, hopefully supporting attention to the small pine trees in the very middle of the lower foreground.

Does it work?

C&C welcome!

Very nice detail and tones in the larger version Richard and a wonderful mood produced by the clouds. The format gives it a very majestic feel also. Maybe a bit more room at the top but great as is.

Nice! This is definitely a "growing image", getting better every time you see it. The clouds are great as they are for me, no need for adjustments. For me this image has several layers, separated partly by the clouds, and making them too bright would distract from the layer composition. My only small nit is that I would have liked to see a bit more of the trees on the right, but that was maybe not even possible?

I like this image a lot , Richard. I would not change a thing. I love shots of clearing fog and the large view is very nice. Great work.

Nice work on this Richard! It is a wonderful scene and I think your b&w processing looks very good as is. I like this comp very much and even better in the large view.

I love the mood here, Richard. Works well for me. Not sure I'd change anything with the comp or processing. Nice work!

This is a beautiful image with a fantastic mood. The processing looks good to me, too.

I can see why you might want to pull more "mood" out of this image, but that may be all that the pixels will allow...
