Caught this Wood Duck Drake flapping his wings. The fast shutter speed really froze the action. Processed using Photoshop CS3, NeatImage and LightZone.

Canon 7D
Canon 200-400 f4 L IS
f6.3
1/2500s
ISO 640
Focal Length 560 mm (teleconverter engaged)

Great shot Jerry! The chest looks huge compared to the wings, must have been the position of the wings at time of capture. Really well done!

This is a action that sometimes follows fooling around with mama. I have seen it many times without mating but many times right after mating. Big ol male looks good. You nailed it Jerry. :toast:

Really nice shot Jerry...looks like all the time with the woodies is really paying off with some fine images. Can't ask for a better pose.

Great catch, with the wing position and completely sharp chest and head.

Jerry,
Almost perfect symmetry. I'm really liking your wood duck series and this one may be the best of the bunch. The larger version shows great clarity and sharpness and the colors and the whites are nicely presented. Can't offer any help to improve this image Jerry. I think you nailed this one. Super congrats. Keep them coming!

You are on a Woody roll here with these wonderful shots. The lower perspective and poses with nice detail add up to some excellent shots. Way to go Jerry, keep up the good work.

Well, I keep coming back to view your image to enjoy it, Jerry, so it'a about time I post something! You've captured a truly wonderful pose, at just the right angle and just the right moment. The light is so amazingly even over the bird, too - no shadowy parts. You must have lined up the sun and the bird and put yourself right between them?

One thing I would try if this image were mine: desaturating the blues of the water a bit... or even completely. I know some amazing photogs have commented already and have yet to make any suggestions... so I'm quite hesitant to even say this! But I'm just wondering if the blues distract a bit from your beautiful subject??

In any case - amazing work. :toast:
