Frosty The Moose

Hi-
This is a young bull moose I photographed in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming in December.

Canon EOS Mark lll
Canon EF500mm f/4L IS ll USM
ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/800

Cropped off 25% and I did a levels adjustment layer in photoshop to brighten the image and bring out more mid-tones in the moose. I also did a USM.

Do you think its ok that I am missing some of his right foreleg?
Also, I should've been at at least ISO 800 which would have also let me stop down to f/9 for more DOF.

You nailed the exposure on this guy. The snow on the nose adds some whimsey. Well done.

A nice shot of this fine young man. I don't think you need any more DOF. You did fine with that. The extra iso may have given you a stop more on the exposure / sensitivity given the same settings, but with the flat light it is hard to say whether that would have been a big boost. I would love to see the extra room in front / below for the leg. Did you get to shoot any as verticals? Nice mood. Good job in this light.

Thank you! I will look back at my files and see if I have any verticals.

I quite like this photo Ashleigh! I do feel that a little more room at the bottom would help. My modus operendi would have been to frame this one with more space on the right than the left, just feels that his body is pointing to the right so more space needed there. The bits of snow on the land and on his nose really makes this shot.

Nice shot of an Abominable Snowmoose! Good sharpness and exposure and I like the snow covered snout.. My only suggestion would be to crop it to a more of a squarish vertical.

Hello Ashley

Sharp and interesting capture. The snow covered muzzle really makes this capture for me!:)

You mentioned a crop and I think more top and bottom with a vertical choice would be my choice if you had the room?

Now it seems quite centered and static .

Thanks for sharing
