One Cool Downy
Clinging to a frozen perch with a snow covered BG this Downy Woodpecker, like all of us, is most likely wishing for Spring to hurry up and arrive. I played around with several compositions on this image and settled on this one as it seems a bit different and has the correct space to fly into from this perch. HH from blind, cropped to 65% of FF with 15 degrees of CCW rotation. Processing in Corel PaintShop Pro x5.

Nice lighting. I keep going back to the foot and marveling at how the large toe flexes to the position it is in. Good work.

Hello Mike

Great detail and sharpness with a touch of the Males colour to bring into the head and focus.

Still have 3 feet of snow in our fields with less in the forest & The sap is not running yet because it's still too cold! maybe in a couple more weeks.

Mike, nice use of flash here to make it pop. I love the composition choice.
