Loon Fly-by

Was lucky enough to get a few shots of a Red-Throated Loon on Lake Michigan here in Indiana on Saturday. He got scared off by a fisherman right before I got into range. Luckily, it flew over me and I managed to get this shot under poor conditions. What a cool bird!

Canon 7d
Sigma 150-500
1/1500 @ f8
ISO 800
Handheld (little time to react)

Nice wing position. Too bad about the conditions, but we take what we get. When it is a new bird just adding it to the files is a plus. Even in the larger version it looks a bit soft. Not too surprising given the short reaction time. The mild vignette doesn't add anything for me, but that is often a matter of personal taste.

Nice wing position and a good ID shot, Jason. Good catch.
