This scene was taken late afternoon along our route as we flew over the Canadian Rockies, in early September. This was definitely the most rugged terrain I've ever seen, with nothing but tall, jagged peaks lifting out of the earth for hundreds of miles...in every direction. I also don't believe we saw a single road or man-made structure for quite a few hours as we cruised east-southeast.
In this scene I liked the counter-diagonals, giving this more of a X-comp, but I mostly enjoyed the hard break between the bright ice/snow and the dark rock. To give a little context, this scene was located high on a rather flat mountaintop, the sun's low angle giving definition to the details in the ice.

Well seen and taken….
Philip: Fortunately the airplane we were flying had good cabin heat. Unfortunately, I was shooting through the glass (no open window, so that's one reason we were able to stay warm while I took photos)!
