This picture is nearly five years old -- taken with my Nikon D80 (that's two cameras ago) during my first visit to the Buttonwoods Farm in eastern Connecticut where they grow huge amounts of sunflowers each July.

...........although I'm a gear nut, I've still got & use my old Mamiya RB67 almost weekly...

You'd not mentioned what lens, but I assume some sort of macro/closeup unit. The detail, color, overall composition, and focus are excellent. I'm glad you've included the stem here too. The eyes just seem to roll along it right up to the tips of the petals. Very nice indeed.

I'd love to have access to a large sunflower field as you mentioned to photograph with my 4x5 camera. Obviously not a closeup per se, but a total field landscape look.

One of my favorite flowers to photograph from the back! Your image captures well the interesting lines and textures of the green layers as they have unfurled to reveal the flower. I like all the hairs on the stem and the touches of pollen too, plus good details throughout. Nicely taken, Nancy.

I had just heard about Buttonwoods Farm last year and the day we planned a visit was somewhat rainy, but your post gives me something to look forward to this season. As others have said, lots of interesting detail captured here Nancy and I especially like the upward-flowing composition from LL to UR, generally. Thanks for sharing!

Great view of this sunflower. You set up a fine eye movement through the frame, starting with the stem, moving through the sepals and onto the petals.
