Taken last year
Southern California

Last year a friend of mine and I were lucky enough to grab several shots from a very tolerant female kestrel one late afternoon. She used several perches, some pretty nice and others not so much. Sometimes she was in good light other times back lit. She would frequently let us drive to with in 60 feet of her and occasionally closer. She didn't seem to care that we were there only looking our direction every so often. This is a shot of her looking directly at us.
She was hunting bugs most of the time. I was never able to capture her with anything in her talons or beak but we did get some neat, well lit shots of her sitting on a perch. These were all taken very late afternoon when the light is most appealing. More to come.
Hope you enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

Excellent pose, sweet light and I like the eye contact. The color palette is about perfect. One of my favorite birds. :toast:

Excellent lighting and the color in the BG is nice. Too bad you couldn't get a slight head turn with a catchlight in the second eye but that's minor when you are talking about getting an image like this of a kestrel

Yes, I do enjoy  . Beautiful shot with great colors, bg and techs ! My first reaction that I would have like a catch light in both eyes, but after giving it some thought I guess the way you presented it is more exciting... Great work ! :toast: , hans
