Mountain Faces

I took this last weekend on the Morgan Lakes trail above Pine Creek in the Eastern Sierra. I'm wondering particularly about the tones of the rock and snow on the face in the LLC, and also if the overall composition seems to work. As usual, C & C welcome!

Hi Richard,
Honestly, the composition here doesn't do much for me. There is not much here to lead the eye through the photo - not any distinctive features in the right side mountain to draw me there. It would be nice to see some more contrast on the left, but I don't think that would overcome the composition problem.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for your C & C! Yes, I'm thinking this image isn't a very good one - definitely helpful to have some outside review. Thanks again.

Richard, I apologize for not noticing this shot. I've been traveling alot lately and it's hit or miss on checking what's new. What I get from this image is the immense scale here that is perhaps just as immensely hard to convey. Having said that, I agree with Doug's assessment. I greatly enjoy your work and know you are trying to push the bubble of what you feel is appealing. This photo is very bold and in your face and perhaps a little unexpected. I think I might try to separate the middle ridge line from the background ridge and deepen the shadow on the mid snow field. Additionally i think I would Increase the highlights in the snowfield below the shadow line. Just a couple of pennies worth. :wavey:

I love the set up from the near/dark and far/gray rock, but my eye pines for something in that sky.

Yes, I think this one's pushing it, too - I'll try your suggestions, Gary. Thank you! John, yes, it sure would have been nice to have some clouds, I tell ya - hopefully next time!

Thanks again for your C & C's!!
