Scarlet Ibis

One of the world's avian highlights is watching the Scarlet Ibis come in to roost at Caroni Swamp in Trinidad in the evening. They don't let you get close enough to the roosting island with the boat to get detailed flight shots, but our guide took us to the mouth of one of the canals that empty into the lake and we were able to get closer there. The light was overcast and fading. I liked the angle of these 2 adult birds and 1 young bird coming towards us.

I,m a bit red green colour blind so I couldn't see them in the thumbnail !!!
Looks great in the biggie though. Wish we had the variety over here though, and I,m too old to travel !!

In all seriousness, the Scarlet Ibises coming in to roost at Caroni are one of the most amazing and most memorable birding experiences on the planet. Many of the guides serve rum punch to their birders as well. If you can only take one birding trip, Trinidad with an evening or two at Caroni should be the one you take.

This is a very good capture, Nate, far closer than we got.

Good photo of these ibis. Great color and I really like the BG, sets the birds off very well. I like how well you have stopped the flight action. Thanks for sharing.

Incredible what colors... You captured them nicely in flight, in a nice setting ! And all three sharp, which is amazing at f5. Very attractive shot Nate ! Guess I should go there  , Cheers, Hans

I sure like the positioning in the frame and they stand out well against the green background. Given my inexperience with birds in flight, I find it amazing to get all three sharp in the same frame.

That must have been a sight to see! Fun having all 3 in the same frame and with various wing positions.
