Yes, how can an already ugly bird make itself even less attractive?
I don't know how much if any, you've cropped off this image but if you have more space at top and bottom then I think a vertical crop might be better.

Pretty ugly, for sure - but still an interesting bird!
I agree that a vertical crop might work well also.

That is one funky bird. I could see the vertical crop or a square crop, keeping the bird on the left side.
