Take a couple of weeks ago after a light snowfall. There was a small group of these guys around the frozen pond in the background

The details in the snow leading up to the bird and in the bird are great. I do wish the bird wasn't dead center. With this view, you could crop some of the oof snow from the bottom and about half the dead space from the right to move the bird off center.

A nice capture of the grouse in the snowy habitat. Overall exposure looks pretty good. Tough place for the bird at the edge of the shadows. My biggest suggestion for improvement is the take the bird out of the middle of the frame. The composition is very static with the current placement.

I really like the alert looking pose and the light is great as is the snowy setting. Probably could crop from the right a little.

I guess I got a little lazy on this one as I should have cropped it to take the bird out of center. Here is a tighter crop.

Excellent exposure balancing the light coming off the snow with the shadows and darker BG. The repost is a stronger comp IMO. Well done.

I really like the looks of the snow in this one, David. Nice perky pose from the Grouse. The color balance looks like it might be off just a bit-the foreground snow looks like it has a slight magenta tinge to me. I do think the repost is an improvement.

You handled this tough light situation very nicely Dave. A nice alert action pose.pose. The composition of the re-post is very pleasing.

Lovely bird in a great setting. Not much more to with for. Maybe a slightly lower angle of view had made for an even nicer shot, but not knowing the surroundings this is hard to judge. Cheers, hans
