Rufous Hummingbird
by Dennis Plank
A female from the same session as the last two posts. The males are so fancy and stay such a short time that it's hard not to let them monopolize ones electrons, but I still like the ladies. Certainly not a natural perch this time, but it does lend a nice sense of scale. This is a standard 8 inch zip tie from the hardware store.
7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu gimbal on RRS legs, f5.6, 1/160, iso 400, Av mode, no exposure compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 6.7 MP of the original 18. The hummingbird was too far out on the zip tie to keep the edge of the branch, which I wanted to anchor the perch, and still get a decent composition, so I copied the right side of the image from just left of the tail and slid it back to shorten the tie, then cleaned up the splice zone and zip tie a bit. Taken Saturday, March 22nd at 5:41 pm.
Your comments and criticisms are most welcome.

BG is killer. Nice PP on the perch as well. I can't tell you did anything there.

Great capture of this tiny one!

I have never been a fan of 'Wire Tie' perches but you have certainly changed my mind with this image. The effort you put into this composition was well worth it and expertly executed.
Well done . . .
