Hi all --

Here's an image from Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge in SE Oregon, made on an amazing Spring day full of squalls and fast-changing light.

I've been to the Steens Mtn area, 70 miles to the east, many times but this was my first trip to the refuge. Glad I made it, and definitely a place I'll return to soon.

Comments etc. are welcomed. Thanks.

Wesley

It's the light that makes this image for me. Almost an otherworldly feeling to it. The Mirrored S Curve leading to the mountains is very nice, and the sidelighting itself is a treat. Spot on processing! :toast:

This is very good. The light is excellent. The dark foreground does help to emphasize the lighting in mid and background and adds to the mood, but I still find myself wondering what it would look like if the foreground was lightened up by about 1 stop, which would highlight the virtual S curve - something worth experimenting with, I think! Great work! :toast:

Superb Wesley. This really needs a black background to sing, but I love the larger version on the gray. Great comp!

Gorgeous light! I like the foreground colors and patterns too. Very nice!

I tried to get out to Steens Mtn once from Bend. What a long haul. I didn't make it and ended up in the Hart Mtn, area. What a vast area, and beautiful as well.

Great mood captured here.
I love the swirl, and the hazy BG.

The wild lighting is special and the two big curves in the foreground making a disconnected S are a neat find. My first impression was that the foreground was too dark, but then I looked at the larger version where some fine detail is easily seen. Is the larger version 1200 px long axis & 500 Mb? It shows up small on my monitor and this looks like an image where bigger is better.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Seems like the image is well received.

@ Mark -- the larger version does not take advantage of the full width / files size. However, you're right, the smaller version does not show the same detail. Next time I post I'll be sure to use the specs on the larger image option.

Great capture! The application of light and dark controls the eye drawing to the distant horizon… sweeping lines add a sense of ocean waves. Well done!

lovely lighting in the BG and i don't mind the darker FG at all. the curves obviously are strong and good. i don't get much from the colour and wonder if you'd consider trying out a b&w conversion?
