Pandion haliaetus

I really like the pose of this Osprey and the nice lighting, but I am not convinced I have chosen the right composition. Do I have too much dead space to the left?

I like the comp as you have it. The light is sweet and is giving a pleasant warmth to the feathers. The only thing I would wish for is a bit more head turn to let the beak show clearly. Excellent detail in the larger version.

I think you nailed it with your question, Matt. These are always tough to place. I usually crop it, then decide it's not right and have to go back and try again. In this case, I think moving the bird a bit left in the frame would help. Other than that, a glorious shot.

Hi Matt: Nice image. Warm light. I like the comp as presented. For me, anything off the left would end up with the bird/perch too centered.

Great Osprey, Matt. For me, I wouldn't change the composition. With the Osprey looking that direction, I think some space to the left, as you have it, is desirable. My taste. Great handling of the whites, always a challenge on these birds. :wavey:

Nice light and exposure. I like the alert pose. I'd probably move the subject slightly left, but that's minor and the image works well as presented.

An intent look on the bird's face. Not too much dead space for me, I like it the way you presented it ! Congrats, Hans

Hi Matt,
Excellent detail and exposure. I am with you in that a little bit more toward the center would improve this a bit, with vertical shots I think they often work well fairly centered. :toast:
