Kurt pointed out that the composition on my last post would have been a bit nicer had the head been turned to our right. I went back to the series and found this one with a bit nicer head turn and better alignment with the end of the perch. The down side is that it was earlier in the session and the light wasn't quite as nice. I'll be interested in seeing if the composition trumps the light.

By the way,for a frame of refernce on the size of these, the plant hanger perch is made from 5/16 inch (8mm) steel rod.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs. f8, 1/250, iso 1000, Av mode, -2/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 10.2mP from an original 16. While cropping, I added a sliver of canvas on the right to get the composition I wanted. Taken April 2nd at 5:50 pm (sunset was 7:41 that evening, so the warm light hadn't really commenced yet).

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Looks great Dennis. I personally like this one better. I do think it's a better pose from the bird and I didn't notice the difference in light until I looked at them side by side, which to me says if I never saw the first one I wouldn't have known the light was a concern, because it looks even and perfectly exposed here.

I like them both Dennis, but I do like the perch in the first shot better. The perch seems to glow in the light in the first shot. Composition I think both are nice.

Gorgeous - couldn't be better, imo.
Amazing, true colours, a typical perch with interesting rust, and nice BG.

This is a beauty, Dennis. The light looks great, with a great glow in the gorget and a nicely dark and oof background.
