The Crack

I hiked in to a great little spot not far from Sedona to get this. The area is called "The Crack" and is a very popular swimming hole in the summer. It isn't quite warm enough to swim here yet, the temp hitting a high of 77 on this hike. To get to this location involves a 4 mile moderate hike along a rocky high desert and cactus lined trail. It's about 2 1/2 hours each way. I'd love to shoot this in different light but there is no camping here and the trail would be pretty treacherous by headlamp. Nice work, Bob. I like the comp here. At first I thought that perhaps a crop to eliminate the sky would look better, but after viewing the large version, I think you made the right choice to include the little notch of blue that is mirrored in the reflection. If anything it could be a hair bigger. Good effort to get up there and share this spot with us. A good dip after a long hike would feel awesome.

One thing about mid-day light is that colors are highly saturated. This shows that aspect nicely, with the blue in the sky and it's reflection contrasting well with the red rocks and green trees. In addition, you've keep the shadows from going totally black which adds nicely to the details in the larger version.

I like the secluded feel you capture. Beautiful even in this light. Great job with your exposure. The comp, with the triangle of blue sky is quite pleasing

Nice little scene, but I don't think I'd walk for 5 hours to go swimming!!!!!!!!!
