Tenderness

A demonstration of tenderness between elephants.

A herd of elephants walked quietly into the camp one afternoon. From the porch of a tent, I tried to capture them in between the bushes and trees that separated me from them. I had to underexpose substantially to keep the detail in the parts of the skin that were lit by the midday sun that fell through the foliage.

Camera NIKON D300
Focal Length 200mm
Shutter Speed 1/400 secs
Aperture f/8
ISO/Film 400

Super picture, Ingrid! You have filled the frame with all that is necessary for a lovely moment of tenderness.

Looks like you did a good job on exposing this Ingrid. Might have opted for a lower iso to gain a little more dynamic range and image quality. A tricky compositional situation here as well I suspect, which you also pulled off nicely. You really managed to capture some emotion here, always a good thing ! :toast:

This conveys the bond between the mother and the calf well without the need to show all of either. Nicely handled.

Love the textures of both the elephants and the tree here Ingrid. :toast:

Well done exposure. I see very little evidence of noise. A tender moment.
