Icefall

A couple years ago I headed to Oregon's Eagle Creek when the forecast called for the coldest few days of the winter, and I wasn't disappointed. Other than sleeping in the back of my truck with temperatures around 15 degrees, it was a great trip and amazing to see the regions waterfalls encased in ice. The larger falls were beautiful, of course, but this small, off-trail cascade was my best find of the trip. I took the shot in the evening in fading light, and preferred this darker processing to a lighter one.

This is really cool (no pun intended!). Love the feeling. Hope you captured a vertical of this same scene. I'd love to see that.

Whoa, this one stirs emotion. Seems kind of like a cave shot.
Mysterious and captivating and well worth the effort.
Nice.

Beautiful! The black negative space works well for me, too. Great other-worldly mood.

So cool. Wonderful scene and capture. I would like to see a little more shadow detail, although I wouldn't want to lose anything in the ice and water highlights. The exposure on them is great. Also, you didn't happen to get a portrait oriented shot did you? Would like to see that.

Very striking. Looks like a setting out of a Narnia movie.

nice capture - i also hope that you got the vertical of this because the vertical with a tighter framing might have worked well - the application of the dark might be less apparent?? gorgeous, jewel in that central area

Thanks so much for all the comments. I'm posting a vertical I took of the scene, though I prefer the horizontal myself. I'm curing what you all think.

Like you, I prefer the horizontal; it just seems to give it better framing.
The detail in the ice is super.
Shot with film, huh? Cool. :toast:

Beautiful image, Thomas. I agree that dark processing works for this image and really enjoy how you have isolated the waterfalls.

That is certainly interesting. I like the way you've applied the vignetting so that there is no distraction at all from the waterfall. It has a very cool BW feel without being a BW. Personally, I would have liked to have seen more detail in the water, but otherwise, this is really well done!

This has a magical feel to it Thomas! The dark portions work very well to highlight and showcase the main subject. I think I prefer the horizontal as well, but the vertical works fine. Well done! :toast:

Very creative image. My preference is for the horizontal. The vertical is pretty nice as well but it's a feels a tad bit tight on the right side.

Superb Tom! I prefer the vertical. Just seems like waterfalls are supposed to be vertical. But, that could be just me. Very nice find and excellent shot. I also like the vertical because it has a little more color and I think that adds a lot.
