A Vulture Feast

A portrait of Lappet-Faced Vulture feeding on a buffalo carcass that had been killed by a pride of lions the previous night in the Southern section of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. This image was captured in early morning light under light rain hence the wet appearance of the bird.

EOS 1D Mark IV - EF500mm f4L IS II USM - 1/640sec @ f4.5 - ISO 500

Nasty looking dude or dudess -- the weathered look adds some nastiness to this vulture -- good behavioral shot

Killer shot Mario (no pun intended). The techs and detail are super. I definitely don't want to meet this guy in a dark alley. Am I correct in noting that he has lost a toe (two o'clock position on the foot)? :toast:

A tough looking bird! Excellent image though. Rick, I think the bird has the other toe hooked behind the rib.

Superb detail and composition. Congrats on going out in the rain to get this, and on your decision to capture the close-up action portrait.
