Northern Flicker
by Max Waugh
During one of my recent local searches for owls, I found a flicker building a nest in a local park. It was a heavily-wooded area, but some late afternoon sun was occasionally filtering through on both the bird and, at times, the background.
I'm curious about what you guys think of this crop and the inclusion of the background. The mix of colors (green + warm tones of the tree) appeal to me, and I don't think a tighter crop would have been as successful since I'd still have some slivers of green bleeding through on the edges. Better to show more of the BG than only a few distracting bits of green, IMO.
