Curious KIT
by William Bickle
The very young Red Fox ( Vulpes vulpes) or kit is a Beautiful character to behold.
I have spent long periods of time being thoroughly entertained by these Amazing guys. This is a young kit about 4 weeks old +-. His three den mates are very active during late afternoon. I think they are up All night carousing and require the daytime to rest and regenerate.
What I like about this capture is the Sharp detailed features, showing a small bit of a meal caught on his whisker, and the nose covered with some dirt from its rooting. Taken while lying prone and shooting through the grasses. The OOF foreground is not ideal but was what was offered up at the time. Late afternoon(5PM) sun was coming and going with the clouds movements.
Taken in MOIRA @ Stonehearst Farm
Nikon D600 & Nikon 200-400mm F4 VR lens.
Hand held while lying on ground
Speed @ 1/500, F5.6, ISO 720, -.67 Meter adj.
Late Afternoon with intermittent Cloud cover
Not Baited, Not called in, Not lured in, WILD FOX
Comments and Critiques appreciated.

This Kit had just emerged from its Den and this was its first look at the world ! This has a Peek-Aboo look as the grass is hiding some of its body from view. Waited for several hours to get this first look! It is the Boldest of the Four Kits.
Mother has now moved them again, She seems to constantly move every few days but may return in a week or two.
There are several mature fox providing food for the Kits and the mature guys are very quick & elusive.

This is the type of image I really like, whist many would consider the OOF foliage distracts, I feel that it adds so much to the actual"reality" of the moment.Well done
Groetjes, Ingrid.
Great feedback, Thank you Very Much.
Hello Luke: Foxes are amazing to watch. The Fox seem here is probably from a sibling from seasons past. We have a few Den locations so far that I have found but only have seen these guys at two of them so far. Patience can be it's own reward!
AJIT: I personally like the image as presented with the space but do enjoy others perspectives too.
KEN: I too enjoy the foreground grasses as presented , because this is what I was seeing too. The surprised looking kit was not aware of my presence and I too was surprised to see him appear from behind the grasses.
MORKEL: peeking around the dens perimeter with the grasses shielding the kit was a Surprised Kit look! And liked how the lens provided the bokeh!
Ingrid, Bill & Nate.: Great to get your feedbacks, Thanks.
Regards
Bill
