One of our common butterflies, with lovely mottled undersides to the hindwings, just showing through in this shot. Only the male has the orange tip.

Canon 7D, Tamron 55-200 lens @ 200, 1/400 sec @ f9, ISO 400, hh.

Excellent exposure and very natural looking colors, it's a pleasing comp Ian.
I don't think we have these over here, although I've seen this species before:wink:
Well done! :toast:

Common for you. . .but I don't know that I've ever seen one of those around here. Now the Crinkleroot wildflowers he is on. . .we have plenty of them around here! Nice shot of this pretty butterfly, Ian. I'm always amazed at the variety of designs and colors on butterflies. Good exposure, nice comp, and good DOF choice. Both the butterfly and the flowers work great for this theme. A "two-for-one" entry.

Lovely look at this butterfly set off nicely by the green background. We have a very similar looking species called the Falcate Orangetip (Anthocharis midea) in most of the eastern half of the USA.

A really nice example of this butterfly Ian. Have never seen one of these. Like your comp, exhibiting natural behavior and positioned just right in the frame.
