Heron and Biotop

What is Black Forest about? The Black Forest consists of a cover of sandstone on top of a core of granites.
The forest mostly consists of pines and firs, a mixture of the European native Norway Spruce and American imported Douglas Fir and White Pine.
The main industry is tourism. In addition to the towns and monuments noted below, the Black Forest is crossed by numerous long distance footpaths.
But a great variety of animals and birds is also leaving here. This heron on the edge of small biotope is one of them.

An interesting shot, Miro. But I see two serious problems. First, the heron is really too small to be the subject of the photo. Second, the bird is facing out of the photo, which unbalances the shot. The techs on your shot are good but the size and position of the bird weaken it for me.

Hi Miro :wavey:
Nice to see you posting here. I like the environmental aspect of this photo. The bird really helps complete the photo. Without it would just not be the same. I agree with Jim that it would be nice if the bird were facing the other way, but as an environmental shot I still think this works fine. Very nice. :toast:

Lovely scene, Miro. I agree with Jim and Charlie that the bird faced the wrong way on you. Ideally, I'd like to see it on the right side of the image. I don't have a problem with it's size, since this is more about the ecology than the bird.

Hello all, thanks for constructive comments I appreciate it. When I was capturing this photo, I was concentrated on beauty of this really natural biotope (natural protected area). The heron was nice addition. Unfortunately I was not able to turn him around. Of course I could to move my camera to made him facing the photo, but in such way I'd loose the main point of interest, the biotope. The bird id small? Of course is small, but just appropriate size to the biotope size. I do not understand the comment about size :frown: It this gallery designated only for extra large avian photos? What about the combination Avian & Nature? I could also photoshop it, but I've decided not to do it. Further comments & suggestions are most welcome. Thank you. :toast:

Hi Miro, I am completely fine wight he size of the bird, but agree with other about placement. If this was the exact angle you wanted of the environment, I would suggest to stay longer until a bird or animal enters the frame in a better place to make the shot work better. Of course, that might take several trips there and lots of waiting, but think it would pay off, because I really like the setting. In this one, I think it would have worked much better if the bird was in the open area on the right of the environment facing left as shown.
