Frightful Fight (Repost)

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted June 2, 2014112 views7 comments

I like this one for the drama, & strange specular highlights in the background. They look like vengeful spirits to me. Or maybe a demonic cheering section?

This was in early morning shade, so I had no choice but to use flash.
Praying Mantid left, Green Lynx Spider right.
F/14, 1/100th, ISO 800, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 with ring-flash.
No winner here, they eventually both moved away to fight another day.

I like this for the same reasons. Some kind of wicked onlooker! Could be a cat. Or a snake. Brrrr!

It's a great photograph of the insect interaction, Howard. Love it. My opinion hasn't changed from when it was a Macro & Close-up WP last year.

Great seeing it again.

The background highlights are really pretty spooky. I think I'd put my money on the mantis. Great shot, Howard.

Fascinating contest to have captured, Howard ! Fine detail and those highlights really do make for a great backdrop. I love this close up but would also like to see a shot with more space around if you have one.

Hi Scott,
I ran through my gallery too quickly to check & missed it. Thought I remembered posting one day, then deleting it before any comments..
I'm losing it, senile dementia & all that

BTW: I did rework the BG URC ever so slightly, so officially it's a repost

I am not sure, Howard, what is says when you can't even remember posting images that earned WPs in the last year! Either your WPs have become so numerous and mundane that you can't remember them all, or it's ARID (age related image dementia).
